Santiago Gallardo Ventura Mr. Dââ¬â¢Angelo English 12, Period 6 13 November 2014 Research Paper: Cancer Cancer, is a type of disease that involves abnormal cell growth and has the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. Not all tumors are cancerous, there is one type that is not cancerous; benign tumors (which do not spread to other parts of the body). Possible signs and symptoms include: a distinct lump, a lengthened cough, irregular bleeding, unexplained weight loss, a difference in bowel movements, and many others. While these symptoms may cause cancer, they may also occur due to other issues (so you must make sure all of the symptoms apply before diagnosing someone with cancer). There are over 100 different known typesâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Signs of breast cancer may include a lump in the breast, irregular breast shape, dimples throughout the skin, fluids oozing from the nipple, and red flaky, itchy skin. Those who have experienced the spread of breast cancer have pain throughout their bones, swollen lymph nodes, shortness of breathing and sometimes even y ellow skin. The risk factors for developing breast cancer include obesity, poor physical activity, drinking alcohol, radiation (iodine), early age in which the woman receives her first menstrual period, and having children late or not having any children at all. Although, breast cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, Melanoma is one of the easiest cancers to get. This type of cancer infects about 176,100 yearly and killing 19,710 every year. In women, the most common place of infection is the legs, and in men, the most common is on their backs. It is commonly found in Caucasians, especially Northern Europeans and Northwestern Europeans, who live in sunny weather due to the lack of melanin but luckily the people with a darker complexion wonââ¬â¢t be affected as commonly because they have a plenty of melanin. Melanocytes creates the pigment, melanin, which is controls the color of the skin. These cells are found in skin, but are also found in other parts of the body as well, which include the eye and the bowel. Melanoma may come from in any part of the body that contains melanocytes.
